What You Should Know About TB
Because maintenance professionals are the ones who must clean the areas where
tuberculosis (TB) is most likely to be found — hospitals, drug treatment centers,
nursing homes and correctional facilities — the following may help make your
employees more aware of TB:
• Tuberculosis is passed through the air when a person with active TB coughs,
speaks or sneezes.
• One of the warning signs of TB infection is a cough that persists for more than
three weeks.
• Other symptoms of TB include fever, fatigue, night sweats and weight loss.
• The only way to know for certain if you have been infected with TB is to be
tested by a medical professional.
• People who are immunocompromised for any reason are the most vulnerable to TB
infection.
• Anyone frequently in crowded, poorly ventilated places is more at risk of
contracting TB.
